    Morocco’s Safari Tours
Our 5-day desert tour from Fes begins with a pick-up from your accommodation or the airport in Fes. Once you are ready, we will begin driving south through the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop will be in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its European-style architecture and clean streets. We will take time to walk around and see the famous Atlas Lion statue before continuing our journey. Next, we will visit the Cedar Forest near Azrou. Here, we will meet the Barbary macaques in their natural habitat and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. After that, we will continue driving across the open fields of the Atlas Mountains, where Berber nomads move with their sheep and goats. We will stop in Midelt or Errachidia for lunch and a short break. In the afternoon, we will cross the High Atlas Mountains and stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Ziz Valley. This valley is one of the largest date-producing regions in Morocco, filled with endless palm groves and traditional kasbahs. By early evening, we will arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara Desert. From here, we will begin the camel trekking experience across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will ride camels through the dunes and stop on a high dune to enjoy the sunset. After sunset, we will continue to the desert camp. Once at the camp, we will check into your Berber tent and prepare for dinner. In the evening, we will gather around the campfire while the staff plays traditional drums and desert music. You will also have free time to climb the dunes for stargazing under the clear Sahara sky. Dinner and overnight in a Berber desert camp.

We recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. The early morning light over the sand is peaceful and unforgettable. After breakfast, we will start our 4x4 desert exploration. We will drive off-road across the Sahara to discover different parts of the desert region. First, we will visit a nomadic Berber family living in tents. We will spend time learning about their simple lifestyle and how they survive in the harsh desert environment while moving with their animals. Next, we will drive across the black desert of M’Ifis to explore the old mines of Mascara and barite. These mines were once important for the local economy. After that, we will continue to Khamlia village to meet the Gnawa people. They originate from Sub-Saharan Africa and have preserved their traditional music and spiritual rhythms. We will visit their music center and enjoy a live performance. Later, we will visit the oasis of Hassi Labied to discover its traditional irrigation system and learn how local farmers grow crops in the desert. At lunchtime, we will take you to taste the local specialty, Berber pizza, before returning to your accommodation in Merzouga. Dinner and overnight at your hotel near the dunes.

After breakfast, we will leave Merzouga and begin our journey toward Tinghir. Our first stop will be in Rissani, one of the most important historic towns in southern Morocco. It was once the capital of the region and is the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, the current royal family of Morocco. If we arrive on a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), we will visit the traditional souk where locals trade animals, vegetables, spices, and handmade goods. Next, we will drive to Erfoud, a town famous for fossils. We will stop at a local fossil cooperative to learn about the different fossils found in the area and how they are transformed into decorative pieces. After that, we will continue through the palm groves of the Fezna Oasis. We will stop to explore the old underground irrigation system, which was built centuries ago to transport water from the mountains to desert farms. In the afternoon, we will drive through villages such as Mellab and Tinjedad before reaching the Tinghir Valley. Finally, we will visit the spectacular Todra Gorges, where high red cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of a narrow river. We will take time to walk along the canyon and enjoy the scenery before heading to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight in Tinghir.

During spring, the valley becomes especially colorful. After that, we will continue to the Skoura Oasis, where we will visit the historic Kasbah Amridil. This traditional mud-brick kasbah gives a clear picture of Berber life in the past. Later, we will arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Here, we will visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and explore the Atlas Studios, where many famous movies and series were filmed. On the last day of our 5-day tour from Fes, we will travel to Marrakech. Our first stop will be at the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. This historic fortress dates back to the 11th century and once served as a major stop for camel caravans traveling between the Sahara and the coastal cities. We will walk through its narrow alleys, explore the mud-brick houses, and climb to the top for panoramic views. After that, we will begin crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass. We will reach an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest mountain passes in North Africa. Along the way, we will stop to enjoy the mountain views and take photos of the winding roads. In the late afternoon, we will arrive in Marrakech and drop you off at your accommodation or the airport. End of the 5-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour.
